Panaderia Cuscatleca is in my top 3 places to get a coffee and pan dulce. They even have vegan pan dulces and food options.

    Recommendations:
    Sweets
    1.Salvadoran quesadilla is a must
2.Relámpagos are better than eclairs in my opinion
3.Maria Luisas have a creamy custard filling with a light sponge cake
4.The cheese cake here is the best I've had so far

    Food:
1.The classico and abuelita breakfasts are great traditional Salvadoran breakfasts
    2.Any of the tortas
    3.the vegan breakfast burrito

    Tip:
For a special treat in your house you can buy a pound of Don Leo single origin Salvadoran coffee at this bakery.

I got the Abuela breakfast platter which had over easy eggs, queso fresco, crema, blended black beans and pan frances. It was a simple and yummy breakfast.

We brought home some quesadilla bread which was buttery and delicious.

The stand out was the Vegan Tres Leches, super good. I liked that the cake held up with the milk and it was just the right amount of submerged. I read online that it is made with almond and macadamia nut milk.  Very good!

I love that this place has the classics like desayuno typico, but also has vegan options.

I was a little overwhelmed at first cause it was busy and I felt rushed, but I will be back to try more desserts and their vegan burrito!

Just going to start off by saying this place is great and I make a point to stop by pretty much every time I work near it.

How we found it about a year ago (More about the place below): My sister and I happened to be working nearby and we just so happened to park right down the street from this place. As we walked past and saw it, it made us suddenly crave some vegan baked treats. Used to places not being vegan friendly, we said we'd look up a vegan bakery and see if we'd be lucky to have one close by. We jokingly said, "watch, this one comes up as vegan." We were pleasantly surprised when it popped up at the top of our search! We nearly ran back to it. All we hoped then is that the treats were good- THEY ARE. And they're well priced, which is another happy bonus.

They have plenty of non vegan foods, a small counter of vegan baked goods, and a menu for vegan sandwiches and a couple of other options. It's a nice stop with picnic type tables to sit and enjoy your purchases. Another great update was a couple of months ago I found that they had vegan carne asada in small tubs in the refrigerator for purchase. A little pricey (about $9 if I remember correctly), but it's so hard to find good vegan carne asada and I had to try it. It was DELICIOUS. Lasted me several days and I was happy. Will definitely buy more when I get in the area again. I don't know about the non vegan treats in here, but I would imagine they're just as great. Perfect place for anyone.

After our final dinner stop (first at La Cevicheria, and now at El Parian), Gold Elite Yelper Isobel L. and I were looking into dessert places since the night was still young. Thanks to my trusty Yelp, Panaderia Cucatleca popped up on my feed.

Not only were they a crosswalk over from El Parian, but we also got to celebrate the late, great Los Angeles Times Food Critic, Mr. Jonathan Gold's birthday eve one more time - of course, with cake (slices)! His actual birthday was on Sunday, July 28th.

Parking: Medium size parking lot that they also share with other shops. If they're full, you can street park (watch for signs). Luckily, they were just one crosswalk over and so we didn't have to drive, yes!!!

Surprisingly, they sell assorted vegan pastries here! Yelper Edwin O. posted a picture of his vegan chocolate cake slice and we were sold! Sadly though, when we arrived, they didn't have anymore vegan chocolate cake slices. That's okay, we still had our normal slices, hehe!

Isobel got the Tres Leches while I got the Dark Chocolate. Originally, I was eyeing the Tres Leches, but fell in love with the Dark Chocolate when my eyes just happened to shift up above the Tres Leches.

Both cake slices were a total of $5.50, awesome deal! (Thanks, Isobel!) My Dark Chocolate was moist, super chocolaty and super sweet. You definitely need to have a glass of milk with this. I also loved that there were malt balls mixed in, giving it that extra crunchiness, yum! I also sampled a small piece of the Tres Leches and it was super sweet and creamy as well. Both of our slices were gigantic and so we each took home our remaining halves for the next day.

Service: Both ladies assisting us in getting the slices and processing the transaction were patient and nice.

Ambience and Décor: Good medium size bakery. There's indoor seating (large communal tables) as well as a small outdoor seating section. We would've sat outside, but the seats were already taken up.

Overall, what a great way to end Mr. Gold's birthday eve celebration. Now that I've been to this bakery, I wouldn't mind stopping by again whenever I'm in the area.

I've passed this place a bunch on my way to work in DTLA and my friend was visiting me from DC this past week. She's vegan and we drove past this place and noticed a sign that they had vegan options.

We stopped through and ordered some pastries (vegan for her, normal for me) and she also ordered some vegan corn tamales.

I had a guava and cheese pastry that was super tasty and one of their pan dulce that was fine. Her pastry was a vegan coco panela, that was only ok.

The vegan tamales were outstanding. They came with black beans and vegan crema. So good! I would come back for those.

The prices were reasonable and the folks working here were friendly and accommodating. There is a small parking lot so we didn't have trouble with parking when we came on a weekday morning. Thanks for the great vegan tamales!
